U.S.S. Inaugural
RE: U.S.S. Inaugural
The problem with graffiti is that it reinforces the notion that no one cares. And that leads to even more defilement.

Isn't that the "broken windows theory"? I could be wrong.

It is indeed.theyulelog wrote:Isn't that the "broken windows theory"? I could be wrong.
RE: U.S.S. Inaugural
The gun which was stolen (not sure if that has been confirmed) was there on Oct 13. Also, no tagging at that time either.

Do you mean "Was it stolen as opposed to being removed by its rightful owner?"guillofm wrote:The gun which was stolen (not sure if that has been confirmed) was there on Oct 13. Also, no tagging at that time either.
Re: U.S.S. Inaugural

Sadly now that it's tagged, I hope it rusts faster, to rust the tags away.

Thanks!!

Why not? Its been under water or difficult to get to for many years. John Patzius is the current owner. Perhaps since the water level was so low he saw the opportunity to remove it. The urgency perhaps compounded by the threat of others removing it?? Bill Cassilly did much the same thing with many landmarks around the city.
All I'm saying is I have yet to see a police report or other proof that the gun was stolen.
If anyone has any info on this please post!

Hey, guillofm - I hope you don't think I was dissing you! Your OP was actually pretty accurate.
At the time of the most recent P-D article (with the tagging photos and the missing guns) I sent a note to the reporter, thinking it would make for a good followup story, whether with a police report or with a contact with John Patzius, as he wound up with the bow twin-40s. But I did not receive a reply, which was disappointing.

archinstl - no I didn't think that. I love a good discussion (or argument as some call it). In fact, I appreciate all the information. Thanks.
RE: U.S.S. Inaugural
The Inaugural makes Yahoo news.
Not much of a story, though, and only one photo.

RE: U.S.S. Inaugural
I got out there a couple weeks ago and snapped a few shots. It thought it was wicked to think about the fact that when the water rises, this thing may be washed away. Now that the metal has been exposed to air again the corrosion process has expedited.

RE: U.S.S. Inaugural
It won't be washed away any time soon. Worst thing that's happened to it in the last decade or so was that the water went down far enough to make it accessible. It was in much better shape just a few months ago.
We're going to raise it, steal one of the guns back from its current known location and drive it over to the Chain of Rocks intake towers and storm the towers, making them our headquarters. You in?
