Help me out here, fellas.
So we've got this pond. A little one, maybe 20 feet in diameter or less, very pretty. We want to make some kind of giant square hammock to hang over the pond.
I've seen this done other places on the internet out of giant fishing nets and cargo nets and such.
Despite all my Googling, I can't seem to find a net of sufficient size that isn't like $1000.
I'm looking for a large square net, at LEAST 10ft by 10ft but preferably larger around 15-20ft. It needs to be somewhat sturdy and capable of holding weight, so those little monofilament seine nets they sell won't cut it.
Anybody have any idea where one could get such a thing? You'd think a good square fishing net of the type I've described would be easy to find on Google, but it's not. |

Are you up for an 'Arts and Crafts' project? Because if one was so inclined, an effective normal hammock can be made from Ducktape. I would assume that more tape would equal stronger hammock, or at least a finer weave would. I imagine one could procure all the required tape for $200 or less...
You could also try weaving para-cord, if you can weave a net that is. You could get enough for under $150 dollars at Surplus City. Also, try looking into the 'Safety Nets' that are sold for construction purposes, I would almost guarantee it would be cheaper than a fishing net, or contact Silver Dollar City and ask those Herschen bastards if they have any surplus nets from the Tom Sawyer's Landing attraction.
I know somebody that has an "American Pickers" level of stuff in his warehouse. He may have one, I can ask. Have you thought about weaving old volleyball nets together? _________________ - Y U NO LIKE RANDY?!?! |

It's probably like a million bucks, though. |

Yeah, I may just end up doing like that and trying to make my own out of rope or something. If I could find a cheap and sturdy old cargo net or fishing net, though, that would be a lot easier. |

Not sure how much you're willing to spend. Here's one that's 8' x 22'. For $220.
Ebay
Another one from the same seller. This is an air cargo net 14' x 14'. Capacity 10,000 lbs. $425.
Ebay
Also maybe check some army surplus stores.
Also, you might be able to weave some ratchet straps together to make one? I was at a tractor supply store today and the thick straps are 20 bucks each. Just thinking the material would be perfect.
They're heavy duty. I have one strap that's cut halfway through and I pull people out all the time with it. _________________ “I investigate things to complete my knowledge, my complete knowledge makes my thoughts sincere, my thoughts being sincere; my heart is pure.”

In high school, about a million years ago, we made something like that out of cord. Took quite a while. I like the strap idea. _________________ The devil is in the details, but I'm pretty sure God is in my sock drawer. |

| North of Springfield off of highway 13 and O highway towards Willard there is a man who sells tents and other army surplus items in his yard. I would contact him to see what hes got, he welcomes visitors since he is a salesman. |

You'll want to hit it with this stuff from time to time to keep it from rotting. The sun will ruin it quick otherwise. |
