Not sure how many of you have been to Truitt's cave, but it used to be a tourist attraction along with a cafe just down the way. The new owner is doing a lot of re-construction on the property.
However, I spoke to the new owner and he was very nice and allowed me to enter and explore it, as long as i went during a time they werent doing any work down there. Just an idea for anyone wanting to check it out before its back open to the public again. I just wrote a letter to the address and he got ahold of me and gave me permission. I was already down that way, so was well worth it to check it out.
He also has considered reopening the cafe again he said.
Also, if your in Lanagan, there are some other caves you can check out next to the rocks that overhang one of the roads. Very easy to see the caves from the roadside. |

| Also, has anyone heard of a cave that if you cross over the railroad tracks at a city park in Lanagan (across the water), there is a cave? I went across the water (its not very deep at all, when i was there), and did find a very small cave there. I was told though that there is a cave much bigger than the one 1 found in the area. I looked, but did not see it. Has someone else came across it? |

As far as I know they are using the cave to create a shelter for WROL or SHTF end of the world. This is directly from the local conservation agent as they had to aquire some permits.
I did not know anything about the owners opening the cafe again. Would be neat though.
I have seen the water tanks they have put in there and some other stuff as I drive by there at least once week on my way to Neosho or Joplin.
I have not inquired if they will let anyone in to explore the cave. I have been in the cave a few times years ago.
edit my gibbly gook typing lol |

I'm not sure if he is really going to reopen the cafe. It was brought up as a conversation, and who knows if it was serious idea or not.
I didnt know that about the end of the world thing. We were told it had flooding issues, and it was being fixed up for the public again. Awww....maybe they didnt want me to know the real reason, LOL.
You there are a lot of people coming up with ideas about the end of the world. I think if god wants me dead, he'll get me, LOL. |

| The cave across the river was the Mystery Cave. Truitt open it also. I'm pretty sure it's been sealed off. If you stand at the river and see some bare ground the cave was to the left and up the hill a bit. You had to slide down in the cave from dirt filling the front in. It had several levels. Some really old wooden ladders in it. Used to exit up the hill. Even more to the right there is a old rock fireplace from a home. Why anyone would build there is a good question. |

Thank-you. Bummer on me being to late to explore it. Thanks for the info though. I agree that the area does seem silly. |

| I'm not really sure if you can still enter or not. I've not been there when it was warm enough to wade. |

Hmm.....i started wondering if i am even talking about the same place as you.
Look at this and tell me if the one you are talking about is here.
36.605839,-94.445657 There is a small one here. This is aprox location. If you are looking straight across the water you can see these rocks. Directly behind the no tresspassing sign.
Is this where the one you are talking about is? or can you pinpoint it for me. Thanks. |

Warning for those attempting to visit this cave. It is at the city park, so people will see you, if you go during the summer.
Also this place here can see you. trees or not they can see you. 36.606646,-94.447521
The other buildings that are closer are just picnic areas/ball court, etc. |

I've never had anyone say anything about going to the cave. That park is busy in the summer.
More neat caves at Noel...
Find the BBQ place on hwy 90 take the road right beside it. Look on the left and down. Old tour cave there. Polar Bear Cave. Keep on that road several miles and you will see a really neat old rock school house on the left.
Take the road that goes behind the chicken plant. Follow it around and check out the remains of a house built in a cave. Railroad Cave.
I think I've been in every cave up at Noel. lol.
The Brownings have the Bluff Dwellers Cave. Super nice people. |
