Hey I'm a pretty good guesstimator.
Excellent info though, I couldn't find a specific location online and I'm lazy so i didn't dig too hard.

Have you got your locksmith certification yet? That's how a guy on our floor was able to build up a full "spare" set of keys for TJ, including the roof key. _________________ Now I'll be bold, As well as strong

| Looking at it from Google Maps, the only obvious way up there would be through one of those windows. Not sure if they're just locked or actually sealed shut though, I've never been up there. |

No roof access I can see, and aside from the view from on high, there doesn't appear to be much else up there. |

BTW, you guys can thank us for raising you tuition. The Centennial Hall used to be called The University Center and suckier inside.
So the school admin came to us, the students, and was like, "We have this plan to fix the U Center and make it spiffier but, it's going to cost this much and we're going to raise tuition by this much to pay for it."
And we were all like, "Yeah, I really don't think we need to improve the building."
And they were like, "Did we forget to mention that you all will be graduated by the time the increase takes effect, so it won't really affect any of you."
After that the students were like, "Oh in that case, yeah we totally support this initiative, screw those later students, that building is a piece of crap now, let's fix that shit." _________________ Now I'll be bold, As well as strong

IIRC, the guy who took the picture looking down at the site of Ft Dette did so from one of the offices on the west side of the building. I don't think he was on the roof. He drew up what it looked like and the drawing is in the archives.
I imagine some of the wood used in Ft Dette is still underground. I saw pics of some construction they were doing there years ago and they found some of the timbers. I don't imagine they brought them up so they are probably still on site and preserved.
There was a proposal to turn Ft Wyman into a state historical site in an effort to preserve it but it never went anywhere. So now, the site is pretty much gone.
There also used to be a winter encampment west of Rolla somewhere but I've got no clue where. Union troops used but I don't know for how long. |

Curse you Nicotti Perpendicular to the Walmart on Bishop Ave., I found a Fort Wyman Road. Crestview Drive sprouts from it and curves right around the Staples, behind which (on google maps anyway) there is a sizable plot of undeveloped land. Eagle90 and Panic - do you think the ruins of the Fort are somewhere there, or if there would be anything left worth looking for? http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Staples+near+Fort+Wyman+Road,+Rolla,+MO&hl=en&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=44.339735,93.076172&hq=Staples&hnear=Fort+Wyman+Rd,+Rolla,+Missouri&t=h&z=16 |

| I think the fort is actually where the moving company lot is. There is a guy who works in the archives at the S&T library who used to play on the fort ruins as a kid. I haven't been able to talk to him but I need to at some point. I'd like to go check the area out sometime but there are houses around it so they might not appreciate folks poking around in their backyards. |

That was an interesting read. I enjoy reading old accounts of executions; in particular, those of the bald knobbers and the final public execution in the US (in Galena, Mo). _________________ Discount shankings! Buy one, get one FREE! |

| That jailhouse that bohannon was kept in is still around. It's this tiny stone building, probably 20ft X 20ft and half that is a staircase going to the second floor. I can't imagine spending the last several months of my life in that thing. |

I'd like to see in the old jail but have never asked. The old court house is pretty cool. I think it's open on Tuesdays and Saturdays for tours. The cabin museum across the street is open then as well. It's a nice little museum.
If you go poking around the railroad cut under the pedestrian bridge there by the court house, you can find all kinds of old stuff. Lots of broken china, bottles, rusty nails, etc. I imagine people used to throw stuff off the bridge all the time way back when. I'd like to take a metal detector there but there's probably so much junk iron it would be useless. |

Went to the AT&T store yesterday and passed what appeared to be an old shopping center, now devoid of life and business. I don't think this has been posted in this thread yet, as it looks like it became unused fairly recently. Anyone have any info or want to check it out this week?
