Joplin 66 Speedway
Joplin 66 Speedway
Finally got to go out and get some daylight pics of this place that i'm happy with. I don't remember when it was built (i remember watching it go up) but it closed around 03-04. There's not a big threat of security around but there is a fence built completely around it, and most of the gates have been removed or fallen down. Also the west tower can be tricky to get into if the doors are locked.
There's buildings on the east and west side, both are two story and the view of the track from the west side roof is pretty good
The place is actually still in pretty good condition, I don't think it would be too much work to make it run again but sadly it will probably get torn down like everything else(there's always rumors of it being started up by different people) I doubt it.

Wow, that is really cool. Were you able to get inside the buildings?

Thanks for sharing. I'm surprised no one has bought it yet. I thought dirt tracking was still popular around here.
Re: Joplin 66 Speedway
Getting into the buildings is really no problem. There's all sorts of interesting stuff in there, and in the west end there's still ice makers and some other food stuffs in the kitchen. Out back there's a trailer pretty much stocked with sporks and styrophome cups and plates for a lifetime. One room still has a bunch of old ticket rolls and track information as well as an area with seats to watch the race inside. Also be careful if you go into the meat locker thing cause the door will close behind you.

I'm reminded of a speedway off 55 somewhere near Arnold. It was flooded and abandoned, but they cleaned it up so some famous race guy could go there for some ceremony.
Re: Joplin 66 Speedway
hey drummer you got one of these in rolla o they use it now for the farmers market but it is pretty much fallen into disrepair but the track is still there

Where?
Re: RE: Joplin 66 Speedway
crazydrummerdude wrote:WTF? Why'd it close?
NOISE issues, it could be heard all over Joplin, they limited how late they could run and then just made it too hard for them to be open. I highly doubt it will ever reopen

The track in St Charles is not a subdivision because of whiney bitches. Why the fuck did they move next to a race track if their pussies bled at anything over 5db?SubLunar wrote:People are such whiny babies.cousin wrote:crazydrummerdude wrote:WTF? Why'd it close?

and just to agree it was closed because of the noise and it was there way before any of the ones who complained

Re: RE: Joplin 66 Speedway
The whole problem was it could literally be heard ALL over Joplin, I remember would be at a house over 5 miles away and could clearly hear the cars and from time to time could understand the announcercrazydrummerdude wrote:The track in St Charles is not a subdivision because of whiney bitches.
