Rockaway Beach casino... Argh.
Okay, so, am I the only guy here who voted yes on amendment 1? I SERIOUSLY wanted that thing to pass. How cool would it have been to have had a freaking casino an hour from Springfield? I've been watching the results come in all night, and I'm seriously bummed out, because it looks like it's gonna fail.
Anyone else vote for it?

Sorry, but I voted against it. If you want tog amble its not that far of a drive, adn have you been to rockaway beach? Its a dump, full of crack heads. They complain baout jobs, really its not that far from forsyth and branson. Lots of jobs not far from home. I think they wanted an easy way out, but there is no way they could have handled the crime, traffic, and population boom that a boat would have brought. On the other hand, the boat may never had made enough money to keep, so it would have been a huge mess for nothing... All I can think about is the crime pollution and traffic that would have ruined a really pretty lake area.

Well, I don't agree that there would've been that much of a negative impact on the area... Ever been to Tunica, MS or the casinos up in Iowa? Seemed like nice places to me, and it didn't seem to have caused too much trouble for them. But even if you're right and it would've been that bad for the area, I still wish that the people of Rockaway Beach had the right and ability to make that decision for themselves.James the Red wrote:SoI think they wanted an easy way out, but there is no way they could have handled the crime, traffic, and population boom that a boat would have brought.

lol, I cant argue with that!
RE: Rockaway Beach casino... Argh.
I hate to say this, but the state of Missouri has made it to where there is only legal gambling on the Missouri and the Mississippi rivers. Aside from that, even if Gambling were legal on all Missouri waterways, Rockaway Beach still would have had to put the issue up to a vote to the whole state. The reason being that Rockaway Beach was also asking for state funding on the casino. My personal reason for not voting for the casino is mainly because I didn't want my state taxes going to it when the roads need lots of work and a hoast of other projects around the state need attention first. Maybe if the state weren't so tight on money already I might vote yes. Plus I think that Rockaway Beach could go for the "quiet stay away from Branson" approace and petition funds for restoration of various motel courts and stuff. It's not much of a driver from the Branson hub and the lakes therefore I think it could be marketed as such. Not all people like staying in noisy high traffice places when they vacation.

Hey, I voted for it. Why should we here in KC have all the gauche and annoying casinos?
RE: Rockaway Beach casino... Argh.
Just another way to regulate money. The two nearest me have attracted not only money but crime. Usually when there's someone on the run they find them at the casino. That's where they look first anyway. Shootings, stabbings, cheating, etc goes on there.
Ameristar is the closest to a Las Vegas casino that I know of in Missouri, but I haven't been to the ones in KC. I can't really tolerate the smoke and the lack of intelligence in casinos anymore. I'll try my luck every 6 months or so and lose my 20 bucks and curse the place for the next 6 months until someone drags me back.
If people want to waste their money in casinos...who cares? I voted against them from the beginning.

No, Ameristar used to be Station Casino it's in St Charles. The casinos in St Louis and East St Louis are total shit holes. There is still the Golden Show Boat or something like that, that cruises the river. It's pretty much shit too. My friend was in a play on it a couple of years ago and NO ONE ever came.
I figure if someone wants to go to a casino with shops and restaurants...go to Las Vegas, not St Charles.
But whateva...

You think so? I can't stay there more than 3 days. Seeing the strip in the daylight is depressing.

Oh absolutely. If I would've been able to cough up the money, I was totally going to be there for New Year's Eve. Hoping to get back there before the year's over, though.ann_marie wrote:You think so? I can't stay there more than 3 days. Seeing the strip in the daylight is depressing.

Up the hill from Rockaway is Merriam Woods! The city hall and maintenance are doing a great job of destroying our roads and dumping all the used blacktop in drycreeks. So, in a couple of years we should have a stinky algae bloom lakefront in Rockaway Beach because i can't find any body or an official govt. or group that can stop this little village turned 4th class city i am seriously afraid when we get a hard rain i am going to be buried in a mudslide because of the way they are excavating and even plugging up (they plugged mine) peoples driveway horns and ditches with ~wait for it~ old blacktop they scraped off the road and shoved into both sides of my driveway. Nobody cares about nature anymore. That was why i moved here 8 years ago. I called the feed store in Branson and asked if they had Diamacious Earth and this guy that sounded like a total redneck says "Nooo" (drawal) then i told him about what wonderful stuff it was for getting rid of ground insect and garden pests and is non-toxic so won't hurt turtles and animals close to the ground! he says (like he is half asleep) "why should i care about turtles, i KILL deer :O))) omg ~what a bunch of morons. Just because you like venison and can kill a deer, doesn't mean you don't care about all of nature at all ~~~complete and utter moronJames the Red wrote:Sorry, but I voted against it.
