Still hurts, still doesn't work right, still haven't seen a doctor.

I don't like paying for stuff and never been to a doctor on my own as an adult, except for when I was hospitalized and didn't really have a choice. So first I gotta find one and then pay for the visit or something. I have no idea how it works at this point.

It's on my list of things to do like next week or the week after that or something.

Just go to urgent care. I don't know what your insurance situation is, so I can't say cost, but you can call your insurance company and ask if it doesn't say on the card. Mine's a $50 charge to go, but I have hefty insurance for my chronic shit.

You don't need an appointment and they got evening hours, so you don't have to get off work. I like Total Access personally.

I've had to go to the doctor so much for so long that your never having been is super foreign to me. Like me and my docs/psyches/dentist is equal to King Arthur and his Roundtable at this point.

Must be nice not having to spend several thousand dollars on prescriptions and doctors annually!

Same here. I've been a couple of times for like sinus infections, but always just seems to be a waste of time. I guess soon I'll get a general practitioner for check ups and stuff (however that works) because at my age they really want to stick things up my ass. I assume there is a good reason for that.

Tried to keep my diet pretty normal on the road trip, but I still managed to mess up my gut biome. Have had the shits for 5 days straight and between that and the mild dehydration, I've felt like crap for the whole time.

Bad thing is, I've had this before, a few years back, so I know the only way to fix it is to eat a bland diet until the bacteria rebalance.

Fun times.

Actually it doesn't work for me.

My bland diet consists of a mix of: crackers/bread with peanut butter, Red Baron Supreme oven pizza, Cool Ranch Doritos, and Taco Bell (with none of the sauce packets).

Amazingly, these are the things that are least likely to cause me stomach issues.

So would that be the PB-RB-TB-D diet?
Maybe shorten it to the Triple B & the D diet?

It can mirror my dating "diet" of Triple Ds & the V...
The "Ds" refers to boob size NOT dicks... I know how you bastards think...

Today I decommissioned my glorious old Windows XP machine.

This was my main production computer built in 2006 and she served admirably and with distinction until she was retired 10 years later, in 2016. Like most hardware these days it still kicked ass up to the end but was replaced because of stupid goddamn (required) software updates. It could record multi-channel audio at 24bit/96khz all day long, edit videos, etc and it never gave me one bit of trouble. It started out life as an AMD Athlon X2 but with a BIOS update I was eventually able to upgrade the CPU to a Quad Core Athlon II X4 in the same original motherboard (which was legitimately surprising/impressive). Everything on this thing including the Operating System is pirated. Only one program was paid for, which was the no good sonofabitch that required the update. Since 2016 she has served as my backup/file server/itunes machine. I cloned the OS to new drives numerous times but never had to wipe/reload it. Never blue screened or froze up on me. Since her retirement/transfer into a backup/file server, she has copied/moved/etc many Terrabytes of data without a hitch. Best fucking computer ever.

I'm only decommissioning now because I've been forced into replacing my 2016 machine due to audio latency bugs I could never fully exterminate and I can't justify having a bunch of computers sitting around. I went with an all-Intel build this time (i7 11700K, 32GBRAM, Intel NVME SSDs) because I figured the issues must've been something in the AMD chipset and I was really fucking tired of troubleshooting stuff. The new i7 build kicks ass so far. As such, the 2016 machine is now taking the place of the XP.

RIP WinXP.

Windows XP had a solid kernel that ran well on all kinds of hardware... I'm impressed you never had to restore a cloned backup, or any hard disk failures!

I'll pour one out for your decomm'd homie. Glad you've got a zippy new rig with proper storage tho 8)

My dad's hard drive crashed recently and they lost 100's of vaca photos. When I was diagnosing it, to see if I could recover any thing, a S.M.A.R.T. error came up on the loading screen.
I'm like, "Uh oh, SMART error."
And dad goes, "Oh yeah it's been showing that warning for a while now."
"How long have you been running the computer with a SMART warning?!"
"Oh like a year or so..."
"And you never mentioned it or googled the error?!"
"Computer loaded up and ran fine. So I didn't think it was a big deal."
I'm pretty sure I facepalmed. Parents got a costly lesson on ignoring HD warnings.

Oof. I had one such failure when I was a kid and have been insanely cautious since then. Backups of backups in multiple locations.
