Also, Bourbon, MO. Why name a town after an alcohol?
While Bourbon, Mo. didn't exist before the whisky was named, bourbon liquor was named for Bourbon County, Kentucky. I believe that Bourbon, Mo. was probably named for the county in Kentucky by the people who settled there because they were most likely from Bourbon County, Kentucky. Kind of like Rolla, Mo. was named for Raleigh, North Carolina, or Westphalia was named for the region of Westphalia in Germany or any number of other areas in Missouri named for places the settlers were from. However that doesn't explain some of the more weird names.

I will say that Halfway, Mo. was named because it is half way between Buffalo and Bolivar.

Also here's a funny one: Tin Cup, Colorado. It's a ghost town and yes, I've been there. Pretty neat to see.
You believe wrong about Bourbon, MO.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, I just like for people to know when I'm right about things because it happens so rarely

I saw that sign on Saturday. We had a bit of a laugh over it.
