Yeah I remember the lock and dam down there. I was down there once when my uncle had an Army Corps of Engineers cook out and he was ordered to bring us. I remember some kind of old gasoline engine they had on display down there next to the lock and dam that was pretty cool. Supposedly one of the first gas engines ever made I suppose. I also remember the school bus factory that was there too.pinkspider wrote:its not actually a town its a big park with a lock and damn . its right outside conway. we have a yearly toad suck dayz festival.paul06660 wrote:Its not in the Ozarks, but in Arkansas somewhere around the Arkansas River there is a town called Toad Suck.

Licking, MO and Anutt, MO. I wish they were next to each other on road signs.
Also, Bourbon, MO. Why name a town after an alcohol?

the bus factory is here in conway but sadly it's no where near as big as it used to be.paul06660 wrote: Yeah I remember the lock and dam down there. We've lost the spirit of this thread, I think.
Have any of us been to these towns?

While Bourbon, Mo. didn't exist before the whisky was named, bourbon liquor was named for Bourbon County, Kentucky. I believe that Bourbon, Mo. was probably named for the county in Kentucky by the people who settled there because they were most likely from Bourbon County, Kentucky. Kind of like Rolla, Mo. was named for Raleigh, North Carolina, or Westphalia was named for the region of Westphalia in Germany or any number of other areas in Missouri named for places the settlers were from. However that doesn't explain some of the more weird names.CaveGirl wrote:Licking, MO and Anutt, MO. I wish they were next to each other on road signs.

I will say that Halfway, Mo. was named because it is half way between Buffalo and Bolivar.
Also here's a funny one: Tin Cup, Colorado. It's a ghost town and yes, I've been there. Pretty neat to see.
