It's a remnant of the early days of the internets. I'm surprised it still exists. Hell.com was another fun site but is sadly no more.

Yeah it's supposed to look like that. It was an experiment on this new thing they call the internet. This is one of the greatest examples of early "net art".

I, for one, really enjoyed sites like this back in the day because they didn't serve a specific purpose other than to click around and explore in.

Here's my favorite modern website for the band Mastodon. This one is obviously commercial and it's for a band's album promotion, but I think they did a phenomenal job on it:

The art on that one is awesome. Mastodon is cool.

This comic was in print decades ago, but the author drew-up one of the plot arcs on the computer and put it on the web in one of the coolest comic formats I've seen in a long time. If you like comics and well-designed "web 1.0" artwork, check out Zot! Online.
