Mastodon - The Motherload
Although I appreciate the female body, I just don't get the fat ass twerking thing. Don't find any of that attractive. No thanks to the cottage cheese asses flopping around.

Endeavors by Mitis is what I'm listening to. But also watching. Because procedurally-generated visualizers are nifty.

Not sure I've ever heard a song like that before. Pretty neat. And the music video seems to borrow some visual styles from True Detective.Nicotti wrote:Yelawolf - Till it's Gone

I know right? I first heard it last night on The Point and was like, "why is this on this station?" But then I got hooked on it.

The Sound Defects
Great stuff, mostly. Skip the second song, at least I do because I hate random vocal sampling.

So I tried listening to Devin Townsend's "Epicloud" two disc album recently on the advice of a friend. I never paid Devin Townsend much attention before.
I listened to the whole thing and am left feeling confused. First of all, it's hard to understand any of the vocals even though it's not screaming. He just has so many layers going on all the time it's hard to single out any one part.
Secondly, every. single. song. tries to be everything all at once. Each song covers so many different styles that nothing makes sense by the end of it. What did I just listen to? It's like the guy can't finish a thought. One song started off as a rockabilly tune. I was digging it until the chorus which sounded like a christian new age gospel. I mean it's fine if you're diverse and all but how about sticking to one idea at a time? Rockabilly and new age gospel music doesn't really jive. It's another example of a really talented musician whose end products ultimately suck despite the obvious talent inherent to its composition. I get the impression he wants to show everyone how creative he is by cramming every song with as much diversity and production as possible. Layers on top of layers of production and varying styles all heaped together. All at the expense of the integrity of each piece. Dude. Take a step back and finish an idea before the next one comes up. It's hard to get into any one of the songs on the album because they go off on so many directions. At any point in which I considered cranking it up, I immediately found myself cranking it back down because the theme changed and I wasn't sure what I was listening to anymore. I mean, damn, that riff kicked ass.. until the operatic gospely vocal part kicked in and the song totally changed direction.
Having said that, Strapping Young Lad, his other project, is a pretty decent metal band.

Randomly clicked on this because it showed up on youtube next to stuff I've listened to. This is some good shit. If you like Jimi Hendrix, you'd probably like this.
