I got to tour the pythian castle about a month ago. It was amazing! Didnt care for the large "Kerry for President" sign they had in one of the tower rooms but they are from California *shrug* so I will forgive 'em. Plus they have whippets same as me. :)

I think it would be rad if we left out political commentary on this forum. You can't go anywhere without having it in your face, at least this one forum could be without it.

I got to go with Kit on this -this entire site is about diffrent ways of looking at things some like to go and explore some like to sit and read about it some are willing to take chances some arn't
It dosen't make anybody right or wrong just diffrent it would be a little boring if everyone had the same view points dont you think???

You're right! Because it makes no sense to talk about it in a thread that, in some way, pertains to politics. We'll just talk about it in any thread no matter how off-topic.

LOL ok i am really sorry your nose is out of joint on this but someone else brought up the castle... I was lucky enough to tour it and that sign was in a room it was part of my impression as i went through. They are redoing the castle into a bed and breakfast and it really was a shock to see it in there. Its not like I made a thread saying Kerry sucks.

Okay, I guess it was a matter of time before I needed to do this. Since I'm the one that pays the bills around here, let me go ahead and lay out what's kosher.

In the Other forum, you can post whatever you want, even politics, and you can derail threads to your hearts delight. The only exceptions are these:

1. Be civil. You don't have to like everyone here, but you do have treat everyone like a human being. If politics DOES come up (which, God, I hope it doesn't), I don't wanna see you guys slinging shit like a bunch of baboons. That means you can disagree, but I don't want to see anyone telling anyone else what a "fucking retard" they are or anything like that. The reason for this is that, unlike a lot of forums out there, most of us actually live within driving distance of each other and might conceivably hang out or meet in real life. So, it could actually spill out into real life and affect the exploration or exploring with other people, and I don't want to deal with that.

2. Nothing that will get me kicked off my site host. That means no porn, no links to warez, or instructions to make meth, or anything stupid like that. I'm all for free speech, but we'll have no speech if I get kicked off Powweb.

As for the regional forums, I don't mind if the threads veer off topic a bit (God knows I've derailed plenty of the threads myself and will again). I'm not a Nazi, and I'm not going to go locking threads or deleting stuff. In fact, I've never deleted a post on here (except for double posts). But, at the same time, I don't want to see a thread about an abandoned building in the Missouri forum turn into a ten page argument about Bush and Kerry or Apple vs. PC. Understand? :P

Yes they used to have prisoners down there. There is one cell that has a painting in it from one of them. It was very cool. Eventually though the changed the rooms over to officer quarters. The one cell is all that is left.

1. I hate censorship. (I know you can't help it WR)
2. I love castles.

My 2 cents.

Ok it seems that some of us don't like the Kerry/Edwards sign... I'm not saying who I voted for, but give these women a break... they came from California if that says anything... At least they are renovation on of our treasures... the two owners before them (after the military sold the place) didn't do jack shit to the building. As a member of the Knights of Pythias I'm proud to see some good use going back into a building that my order built over 90 years ago.

In case I haven't posted it yet, from 1912 to 1940 the Castle was used as an orphanage and a home for elderly Pythians. The order sold it to the military in 1940 and then the military added it to the O'Reiley Military Hospital.
