I feel like a 15 yr old boy for admitting this, but in anticipation of the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic mmo, I am reading the Darth Bane Trilogy by Drew Karpyshyn.

I gotta say, I always thought these kind of books would just be silly in a way, kinda like they are a desperate attempt to mooch success off the brand name and not actually real literature. But holy shit, these books are very well-written. I am completely enjoying them and I am now officially a Drew Karpyshyn fan.

Coincidentally, looking into the Cairo, Illinois stuff in that that book was how I knew You City didn't know what the fuck he was talking about with Barrows Cave.

Jacquel and Ibis with the funeral home in Cairo, Illinois, were actually Anubis and Thoth and were brought there by ancient Egyptians and Gaiman off-handedly mentions that Egyptian artifacts were found in the area and that Cairo was actually named after Jacquel and Ibis.

Yeah, I read an interview by him where he said that when he was choosing what gods to put into the story he looked to make sure there was at least some claim of that gods' worshippers having made it to America, even if it wasn't credible. It was also the reason he left out all the Greek gods, because he couldn't find anything to anchor it on (and he thought they were overused).

Speaking of Greek gods, I'm currently reading The Lightning Thief to my son. So far, I like it. It's juvenile fiction, but it has a slight edge to it. Strangely enough, I think there are more interesting things going on in juvenile fiction than in most other areas. I get tired of seeing the same old names on the best seller lists: John Grisham, Patterson, etc.

Yeah, teen fiction has alot of new content on the fantasy/sci-fi front. I haven't read The Lightning Thief yet, but I would have to recommend The Pendragon series, The Hungry City Chronicles, and His Dark Materials trilogy.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Hunger Games trilogy, which I think was geared as a teen fiction series, but blew up with young adults as well. I'm eagerly anticipating the movie release.

I've picked those up and read the descriptions at the book store, but I haven't convinced myself I need to buy them yet... mostly cause I have about 15 books in my "yet to be read" stack.

I am addicted to buying the oldest copies of books I can find. The older the better. To be on my bookshelf, they gotta be at least early 1900's or better. I've got a Latin version of Virgil's Aeneid from 1869 with scribblings in it from someone translating it in 1881. I was watching a first edition Francis Bacon book from the 1600's on ebay go for over 5 grand a while back. They're just so damn cool looking!
