"You cannot post again so quickly" and out of orde

Post by White Rabbit »

Okay, two weird things have been happening lately. One is that you've probably been getting the "You cannot post again so quickly error" even though you're not trying to post that damn quickly. The second is that some replies are appearing BEFORE the original post.

Here's what's wrong, as best I can explain it. The server clock for the cluster that our site resides on is out of synch with the rest of the servers by about four minutes. This means that sometimes you pull one time, and sometimes you pull another. So, sometimes, when you try to post, it thinks you are actually posting BEFORE your last post (in other words negative seconds), which sets off the flood control thing that is currently set at 15 seconds minimum. If you get this, all you can do is backup and try again, or wait about four minutes.

OR, the other thing it does, is because it pulls a different time it sometimes thinks the time on your reply is BEFORE the post you're replying to, so it puts your post before that one.

In any case, Powweb is aware of this problem and is working on it. Rest assured, I'm staying right on their ass about it because it's really fucking annoying. But, for the time being we're just going to have to deal with it, because there's nothing I can do about it myself.

Man, that is sorta lame, especially with how easy time sync is to pull off.

I hope they get their shit strait.

Supposedly they've fixed this. I haven't noticed it happening for a while anyway, either. I need to check the access times in the logs again to be sure, though.
