chat room?

Post by thetrio »

Hey WR i was just wondering why there is no chat room here? I dont know much about websites or how they run etc. but a chat room might be kinda fun. Just a thought, sorry if no one likes it.
I went over to the dark side, but just to pick up a few things.

I think that the biggest problem with having a chatroom is that we seem to be scattered as far as when we're on. In case you hadn't noticed, it gives you a listing of who's been active browsing (or posting on) the forum in the past five minutes. So far, I haven't ever seen more than five at once, and it's generally either just one or two.

Now, granted, there are more people on sometimes, I'm sure, and maybe I just hit off-hours, even though I tend to hit the forum at random points during the day and night, but the only effective use of a chatroom here that I can see is that it might be useful for having meetings that are at a preset time.

Well, the main reason is that our host, Powweb, doesn't allow you to run any kind of chat programs or software on your website. They have a tendency to be really resource-intensive, I guess.

It still would be a piece of cake to get an IRC channel up and running, one that we all could idle in and leave messages.

Well, I know where you could host one, either for free or for really cheap, and it's software I'm really familiar with, but I still don't think it's necessary.

don't know about anyone else, but the thought of a chat room doesn't really do much for me. could just be me though.

It'd be cool, but I'd rather just set a meetup date and time and go explore rather than sit in a chatroom all day. Plus, I have enough excuses to stay online for longer than I should, don't need anymore.

I'd be up for the IRC channel. I'm usually online late at night.

The DALnet servers have nickserv and chanserv. They're helpful.
