Pics from Jordan

Post by Kit »

I have A LOT so i will probably just add a few at at time.

This is in Madaba its a very old church.. the inside was very cool but the best thing was this was on good friday and they were having services. Its a greek orthodox church and standing just inside watching gave me goosebumps.

Next that day we went to Mt Nebo where Moses died. On a clear day you can see Isreal, the dead sea, Jericho, and more but it was not clear the day we were there.

The views into Jordan:

The church: There was a tour bus of oriental people there while we were and they came on in and also had a church service while we were there. It was very cool.

Image

This was put up when the pope visited the site in 2000.

Image

We then we to the site where Jesus was baptised.

We thought this sign was cool:

Image

The actual site is dry now because of the Jordan river being damned.

Sticking my hand in the Jordan river:

Next we went to the dead sea (it was a busy day) This is the view from up at the hotel we visited:

The land you can see in the distance is Isreal:

Different day we headed to Petra:

The beginning of the walk in:

A HUGE tunnel they used to divert water... I sooo wanted to go in there.

Part of the Treasury:

Like i said I have A LOT more pics i will fill this post in as I upload more pics.

Awesome pictures. My jealousy knows no bounds. And I considered letting it go, but I just can't. I can't:

Damn you, Jordan River, why did you allow yourself to be dammed?

hehe Jordan i think is the 2nd most water poor country in the world. (what i was told anyways) the damn part the guide told us. The baptism site in on a military base so we were always with a guide and there was a lot of barbed wire. When we were down at the river we were about 6 feet from isreal and on the other side there they had a military base.

We asked about how well they got along as the peace treaty between islreal and jordan isnt that old and our driver that day said ... its ok we stay on our side they stay on theirs. It was clear while as americans we were ok.. they did not like jewish people at all. I will try to get more pics up by this weekend :D

i would have if i could have... but while there were people everywhere in that park.. no one was in the tunnel :(

Petra Pics sorry if these are doubles:

Goat meat anyone?

Image

Walking into the park. The guy in the middle is an Aussie that was serving in Iraq. Loved his accent. All the holes you see are doors into small rooms carved into the limestone. People lived in those until the late 80s. There are a few that still live in the "caves" outside the park.

Image

Closer pic of the openings

Image

First tomb we came to

Image

More walking.. look at that butt hehe j/k

Image

Going into the Siq: the very narrow opening that did not look like in the movie. There was no cresent shape at the top. *la sigh*

Image

I dont know what scott was taking a picture of here LOL

Image

The colors and size of the rocks there were crazy beautiful. Its really hard to tell just how high up the edge was from pictures. But It was breathtaking being there.

Image

More Rocks ... oooOOOooo pretty.

Image

Image

Image

Image

In some places it really looked like the rocks were melting. So awesome.

Image

Coming out of the Siq (the narrow opening we walked through) And you can see the treasury coming into view.

Image

Can you tell who the tour guide liked more?

Image

The treasury: Its so hard again to judge the size from the pics.. but if you look past us to the stairs and look at how small the people are there you kinda get an idea. Then something you might not know in front of the stairs you see there they have dug out and there is another level that is buried .. they think that is the main level. So there is even more underground. They think that more than 60% of the ruins are underground. Buried with debris from earthquakes. :( I have video of the underground level but not pics :( Oh and the holes going up the sides in the rock are where they used scaffeling to carve out the rock.

Image

Camels! They spit ewww.

Image

Inside the treasury.. Not as cool as it was in the movie. :( Just more rooms where the tombs were. It was never a treasury. But the colors in there were so great.

Image

Image

Further into the park there were tombs everywhere!

Image

Image

Image

we walked a lot that day LOL

That place rocks, I want to go. (Get it, "rocks")

I'm bringing myself a chisel and a hammer and carving a self portrait. Then next to it writing, "I was here". (Think anyone would notice?)

ok last set.. Told ya it was a lot lol

View from our hotel. It was kinda crazy we were watching CNN one day and they had a guy on there in Jordan and he was just about a block down we could see the stuff behind him live. The city was HUGE and a PIA to drive in.

Image

Image

Image

A gas station :)

Image

The first place we went while there was the city of Jerash which has this very very large park full of Roman ruins. It was a lot of fun.

This is a pic of the countryside on the way. It was a lot greener than we expected. But they said it was just because it was spring... and we were heading north.

Image

First Arch we saw. Its really hard to tell how large it is in this pic.. but if you look on the right side you can see a little door high up. That is a large doorway for a person.

Image

close up on that section

Image

Next thing we saw was a floor of a very old church. I forget when it was from but it was BC

Image

Across from that floor was a jousting area. The arches and the view through them was just breath taking.

Image

The back side of the seats for the jousting area

Image

We didnt do this one with a guide so i can only guess at what these rooms were for. You can get an idea on that first arch from this pic.

Image

Looking down the way at more ruins

Image

Petra had beggers but by time we made it there we were sick of them and were pretty good at getting them to leave us alone. The beggers here were horrible. 95% of them were kids I took a pic to remember them by

Image

Even the rubble was beautiful

Image

Another arch.. yes after awhile roman ruins all start to look the same

Image

This really looked like a kind of sewer system it was filled with garbage now though :(

Image

Image

This looked like a tomb but I dont think it was.

Image

my favorite pic i think of the whole trip. This was on the way back to Amman from Jerash.
