That's awesome. I've only been to one old fort, out in Santa Rosa Island, Florida, but they're so cool.

I have been to a place kinda like this in Port Townsend, WA. The place was awesome. The gun placements were at least 5 feet across. There weren't any guns left but the must have been huge. Heard something about the site and that there is another one on the other side of the sound. Next time I am out there I'll get pictures. Have been in that area 2 times and still don't have any.

I think i know of the one you are talking about. There are a lot of cool forts along the west coast. Most were built during the 1920-1940's so the are very big and complex. The one just north of san francisco has a lot of underground tunnels and part of a 16" gun. Most are not open to the public so there are lots of goodies to be found.

I used to be oncall for this company that did emergency work for ships that sunk, collided, ran aground got fucked up in a storm. If your ship was in a world of shit you would call us and we would come get it. We went up to eastern canada and pulled this big ship off the shore and towed it down to bath iron works which is a big ship yard about 15 miles north of the fort. I was driving around one day and I found the fort.

If you ever get a chance to go out in the ocean during a strom do it. you will have a very diffrent outlook on life after that.
