West Fork Ski Area

Post by WestForkMtnTop »

On 40/29 TV last night they mentioned a Ski Area to be opened up in Northwest Arkansas near West Fork. I have done many searches and have found out nothing. If any one has any info about this at all i would like to know. Would be interesting for this area. Thanks

They're trying one of those "make the snow" ski resorts again? Do those things ever actually stay in business?

There was one here in KC called snow creek. I think it is still open, if it is its been around for a long time. Of course we sometimes get real snow here.
I went over to the dark side, but just to pick up a few things.

I still go to snow creek a lot. Decent place...considering there aren't many mountains around here.

I saw something today about it in the Northwest Arkansas Times. Was just like a sentence about some Virgina Based Developer going to put a snowtubing complex on 43 acres near West Fork. Probably wouldn't ammount to much, but bored people in Northwest Arkansas would probably flock to it in the winter. It may be an experiment to see if a bigger resort would work here. And hey, if Cloudmont Ski Resort in Alabama works, it may actually work here too.

We used to have a place like that on Highway 13 north of Springfield but it closed several years ago. It was called Snow Bluff. It's still there but quite abandoned and starting to look more like a junk lot but you can see where they cleared the trees for the slopes.

The ski slope at Marble Falls Resort adjacent to Dogpatch failed horribly. I see the one at West Fork doing the same.

Yes dogpatch failed but the year the ski slope opened it was the warmest winter on record tempetures have to be below freezing to make fake snow and that year i dont think they got in the 30's much less in the teens(which it when the fake snow works best)
The ski resort outside Pacific usally draws a lot of people but it is still kinda tacky the only place there is snow is on the ski runs the rest of still looks like a golf course(which it is)
