RE: Race track of Eureka
...no wonder i couldnt' find it. I've lived there for years....and i looked all over for that stupid thing several months ago......
i'll be back down there in a week or two and see if i can get some pics
as far as a stagecoach road.......i'm gonna have to give a big no on that one. I really only know of three roads that go directly from eureka to berryville ...one of them is a super duper long dirt road ....no bridge though

I think something clever is supposed to go right here.
RE: Race track of Eureka
There's a road, CR 306, which used to have two thru-truss bridges on it, built in 1912. They were both replaced in 2000. I'm not positive, but this might be a former route of AR 12 (precursor to US 62/US 412). The old-new Kings River bridge was built in 1931, which means that US 62 might have followed the old road for a short amount of time (US 62 was commissioned in 1930).
There's also a stretch of abandoned highway where the old Kings River bridge was on 62, just to the east of the current bridge.
Speaking of US 412, there's a neat semi-abandoned bridge near Huntsville over War Eagle Creek. You can still drive over it, and some of the railings are missing. Here are some pictures of it:

Re: RE: Race track of Eureka
those are the ones. when i went over them years ago, they spanned across fields....no water under 'em.bugo wrote:There's a road, CR 306, which used to have two thru-truss bridges on it, built in 1912. BTW, Maiden rules. I saw them a few years ago at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas, and even got to meet Steve and Janick.
RE: Race track of Eureka
I just called my dad...
one was the kings river/cr 306 bridge, the other wasn't named, but it was over the dry osage creek bed.
they creaked and moaned like crazy when you drove over them and my dad would scare the shit out of us by stopping in the middle.
have they actually been torn down, or just replaced by something new?

Beaver bridge is cool if you have never driven across a bridge that moves.

RE: Race track of Eureka
been on it many times. i lived in eureka for 14 years.
speaking of beaver town, i remember a cub scout trip or something where we followed the path of the old railroad. if your on the beaver town side of the bridge looking out towards the bridge (like your picture) i think it headed off towards your right, parallel with the water. nothing really much to see though.
