Rumors
So i have heard rumors that there may be an alternate entrance to fantastic caverns. Is there any truth behind this?

RE: Rumors
I’ll never say never… but I doubt there is anything left to discover about Fantastic Caverns. I worked there in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Drury professor Dr. Stephen Jones did an extensive survey of the cave ecology as part of a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. In studying the wildlife that lives in and is directly affected by cave environment Dr. Jones teamed up with Tom Aley of the Ozarks Underground Laboratory. A series of die tracings was done to determine the source of the water that flows thru the lower passages of the cave. Combine this with years and years of professional and armature spelunkers who have crawled, shimmied, climbed every inch of the cavern, I don’t think there is much left to discover.
I’d love to be wrong.

RE: Rumors
There are many caves along the Little Sac. People may be confused in thinking they found something that links up to Fantastic Caverns, or maybe it does through passages that can't be navigated through. Someone on this site has mentioned finding a collapsed structure very nearby, and there are a couple caves across the road. Seeing how this is one of the most accessible tour caves in the region though, I'm not sure why you would want to break into this one.
Re: Rumors
I thought there was another thread on here about an alternate entrance, on private property. sort of a small, back entrance. I'll have to dig and see what I can find.

I think I was thinking of this:

Yep, notice it is mentioned it doesn't connect. There are several caves in that area, but none of them are back doors to Fantastic Caverns as far as I know. They are just near to the same location.
Re: Rumors
...I mean someone could just look at the cave map.
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

RE: Rumors
There's a cave laboratory on the south side of Missouri. It's primarily for people doing various field studies, so its not a tour cave. We just happen to have a similar name on this forum.
