A buttload. I think I saw around 7,000 *not positive on the numbers* Missouri is like number two with the most caves. Where in the world did I read this??

haha, there's the one at Sequiota! I walked about 20 feet in there and then got a call that I had to leave so I dind't get to crawl through one of those smaller entrances.

Anyone hear about how they discovered that Carlsbad Cavers has yet another level that they were totally unaware of? Not only was it already the deepest cave around...now it's they've discovered what is at least 1/3 the size of what already was known.

The general estimate is "over 5,000" I believe, with around 3,000 in Arkansas. A lot of MO's best caves are further east, though, which sucks.

...We're actually #1, but I was under the impression that Indiana was beating us. Also, they claim 4,769 official caves as of 1986, so one can figure the actual number as well over 5,000.

If you go to your local parks department you can usually find info on caves in your area or spelunking trips that they go on. I know when I was around 9 years old we would go caving with our parks department here in Nixa at least once a week. They are a blast because if you go with a city affiliation, i.e.: Nixa Parks Department, Ozark Recreation etc., you can get into the private caves that you normally wouldn't be able to go in.
