Sink holes remind me of crop circles for some reason?!?

There is a sinkhole near my parents house and about 8 years ago they built an entire neighborhood over it. I found out from some old timers in the area that the developer didn't disclose the sinkhole to the buyers. I wonder what the legal stance is on that?

There may be some legal action people can take from that but that's only if anything happens to their proporty such as flood or the sink hole collapsing more and such. I know people from Springfield will remember this, back when we had the floods of 1993 a neighborhood on the south side of town was flooded out, the Furgison Street neighborhood. Those houses were built on a big sinkhole dranage system that until Kansas street had been put through from Walnut Lawn to Battlefield actually drained properly. Once the street was put thorugh, it created a damn and when the big floods happened in 1993, the sinkhole filled up with water and the runoff was esentialy dammed up and people were flooded out of their homes... The City went in an bought all of the homes that had been flooded out at the assesed value they were before the flood and the people had to relocate. As far as sewing developers, most people that lived in those houses were either second person or more from the original buy when the hosue was built... by that time there is nothing you can do to the developer.

i dont know that i have ever seen a sink hole that filled up with water like that. I am used to ones more like the one by Campbell 16 or where firefall is held. where there is simply a large indention in the ground.

I'm actually surprised to see a sinkhole open up like that... Those don't happen very often... though part of the main road into Wanoka Lodge collapsed becasue of a sinkhole opening up underneith it.

Yeah, if you look at the front of that picture, there's a little creek running along side the road there. I don't think the creek flooded it or anything like that, but it shows there's probably a lot of spring/groundwater activity there. All the rain we've had probably caused the thing to fall in.

Most likely that's how high the water table is in that area... especially if it's near a creek. The water table is always higher near a water source such as a creek or lake or river or such.

wouldnt there have to be some kind of underground river to carry away all the dirt and rock that used to be there? 150 foot deep is really really deep and that would have been a lot of earth even if you take away where the cave used to be.
