The Scout camp at Weldon Springs is a new one on me.
I was in the Scouts from 1949 to 1953 and we made many trips to Weldon Springs, but just to "explore" the old igloos and to fish in the lakes of Busch Wildlife. All of the old powder buildings had been razed (although I recall seeing them), and this was before the nuclear facility was built.
I wonder if it was some sort of company recreation spot as opposed to a Scout camp?
The only reference I found (whether Boy or Girl) Scouts was in Section II of this fascinating piece: http://thetntstory.blogspot.com/2011/01 ... vml-o.html
Where did you find even ANY reference to a "Scout camp?"
You've really piqued my curiosity!
Some stuff in the woods in Weldon Springs
RE: Some stuff in the woods in Weldon Springs
A-HA!
I found some info.
Look at http://thetntstory.blogspot.com/2010/12 ... affey.html
Apparently it was some sort of camp, but not necessarily a Scout camp, according to some other Google research. It had been razed long before the Government took it over in 1941.
The owner of these parcels, Birch O. Mahaffey, was a very prominent lawyer in St. Louis.

Yeah, I read from same source back couple years ago, (TNTstory.blog) finally made time to get out there last weekend to check this particular spot. I'm thinking the same, it might have been some sort of company recreation spot.
1937 USGS historical maps show several building in this area and is written (Boys Camp). I went there late Sunday didn't have much daylight time to explore the complete hollow and surrounding ridges. Probably head back out there later this week.

Hey Archinstl,
just found this.
If you read in the TNTstory.blog. The survey of the property by Weldon Springs Ordnance works name the property as the "High-Ho Lodge" (Mahaffey)

The old school was near 94/40 on the W side of 94. The road to it is gated and the building torn down.
That bridge shown in the pic was also used as the haul road when the Weldon Spring TNT site (and Thorium processing plant) and the quarry/dump near the old water plant (Echodome) was.was cleaned up.
