Civil War Tunnels
Civil War Tunnels
There are/were supposed to be/have been a system of tunnels under the origional Jefferson Barracks complex. Does anyone know anything about these?
I'm pretty sure they'd be in this area:
Here is what the area above looked like during the Civil War:

I was stationed at Jefferson Barracks for five years in the Guard. I had always heard about the tunnels, but from what I gathered, I'm pretty sure they either don't exsist, or no one really knows where the exactly are. Hmmm. Maybe I should go back and check it out.

Not to switch subjects, but has anyone read the St. Louis County Parks website? In the JB section, they refer to a secret program during WWII that had its own complex in Jefferson Barracks.
After the war, the complex was abandoned and mostly taken down except for a swimming pool and maybe another structure. They give GPS coordinates, but I don't have the capability.

I have a gps, so the coords would be appreciated. Also, you can type gps coords into google earth, and it will take you to the spot. See where it's taking you.

I found those same coordinates, and was planning on checking them out tomorrow or sometime this week...sounds pretty interesting
Re: Civil War Tunnels
Holy crap, there are all kinds of cool stuff on that GPS page!
RE: Civil War Tunnels
Not to rain on any parades, but a large portion of Jefferson Barracks is still quite off limits to the general public. careful of the M.P.'s and the barbed wire. Hope they don't think you're a "terrorist." Good luck!

Some of us aren't "general public." YES!
Also, look at all the GPS coords for caves in Greensfelder Park! That's right by Six Flags in Eureeka. We should go out there with my GPS some day and check them out.
