I go apeshit with ????? beam laser!
RE: Carondolet Coke and Wright/Arcade
I believe it says 'flash beam laser' whatever that may be. Crazy messages from bums are fun!
RE: Carondolet Coke and Wright/Arcade
I went there anticipating to run into a few residents, suprisingly I did not.
Cool place, I have to go back just to see the crane!

I really, really like coke plant, it's definately one of my favorite locations, the river-crane-loader-unloader-steel-bridge-mooring-thing with the stairs and the platforms and the ladders and the veiws especially.
If the plan to raze it goes through, I'm definately gonna have to find a new big metal river thing.
As for those living there, I think they hang out in the brick building that is perpendicular to the main buildings. I just stay out of there, no reason to bother them. I've yet to see residents elsewhere.
Also, we went last Sunday and there were people fishing there but no other 'recreational' users.

Would anyone be interested in a little meet up there this weekend or sometime during next week?
Re: Carondolet Coke and Wright/Arcade
Possibly, as I'd like to make up a rope ladder or something because we 're-discovered' a hole in the ground that goes into some kind of underground equipment room, and it itself had stairs going down even further. I'm curious if that leads to the 'coal shaft' that I beleive runs from the river thing to the main building.

How long of a ladder would you need?Chris wrote:Possibly, as I'd like to make up a rope ladder or something because we 're-discovered' a hole in the ground that goes into some kind of underground equipment room, and it itself had stairs going down even further. Not that long. I feel I should go into greater detail about what I'm talking about to clarify things a bit.
On one part of the property, there is a concrete pad. In this concrete pad is a hole about 2' square. If you were to drop through that hole, you'd be in some kind of mechanical room. But the room is full of collapsed concrete, old tires, and random junk, so I really can't tell how big it is. It also appears that there is a stairwell in this room leading to a further lower level and this stairwell is also full of debris and makes it hard to tell if it's just some kind of railing or is in fact a stairwell. You should only need a ladder 10'-12' long, as it's not a concrete shaft or anything, just a hole in the roof of this underground 'room'.

I know there are underground tunnels there. I have been in one that started on one side of the rr tracks and ended up climbing out on the other side. and one that goes under the main buildings and one that goes to a door that goes to the base of the smoke stack but i can get it to open wide enough to get inside.
Can you here me now! its the end of radio, and we miss it.

LOL, yeah I remember the door that goes to the base of the smokestack, that one is cool.
I had a huge ass wrench and a pry bar in my truck for weeks intending to go back and open that door.
We tried to unlodge it from the wall (somebody long ago must've opened it the wrong way, lodging the corner in the wall) but couldn't quite get it un-stuck.

I took this shitty picture, and as I lowered the camera down, a hobo popped through the door. Looking back at the picture, that's him in the brush. He came up to us with a beer in one hand and a snake in the other.
Easiest way to find the underground conveyor system is to go to the base of the crane. WAY WAY too creepy for me to go down in. Plus, it was full of water with trash floating in it.
I accidently took this cool pic:
