The prison/workhouse north of the riverfront

Post by Chris »

There is a prison or workhouse or something similar north of the riverfront, not too much further north than the Cotton Belt warehouse. The building themselves are reletively new and uninteresting, but it's the retaining walls around the building that caught my eye.

They're very old brick walls and may have been part of an older building's basement. But the most interesting thing is that directly behind the prison building the wall has large brick arch tunnels going into it. They're fenced off and I don't know if they go very deep but there's three of them, I think. They appeared to be about 15 or 20 feet wide and 10 or 15 feet tall.

No, I drove some friends by them recently, but there's really no way to get close.

I noticed the big arched one I think it was dark red with old wood over it...I'd like to check this out, but can't figure out how to get in undetected.

Welcome to the forum...

They look awefully cool, but like you said, I see no way in.

Maybe they originally hooked up with this tunnel?
They are small, they could of been part of the "Lucas Subway", the tunnels are not big enough for standard railroad cars. It would line up with a gradual curve when viewed from Google earth.
