Yes - this brewery was built in the 1840s by Julius Winkelmeyer, By 1875 it was one of the largest breweries in STL operating as Union Brewery. It sat where Union Station is now and had a large system of cellars beneath it. Uhrig had his Camp Spring brewery next door to the east, and had his cave at Washington and Jefferson, which was super popular in the late 19th century. Lots going on under the city, and I always wonder what cool stuff they dug up putting in the new soccer stadium. Whitepanther told me they hit 3 springs while digging, and I remember driving past once or twice and seeing a bunch of water flowing across 20th St at Olive. Maybe the what's left of Camp Spring? I
m sure WP can chime in with more if he sees this.
