Another one under our belt

Post by ze_beeved »

Funb, my brother, a friend and I went to B & H yesterday. One hell of an interesting place. Creepy but interesting. We ran out of juice in the lights so our adventure was limited to about 2 hrs. We're coming up with a backpack battery system for the spot light to make it last longer. Talked to thetrio the other day and he said we'd need some pretty high candle power. He was right. With all the haze in the air, a regular flashlight just won't penetrate very far at all. And just to be on the safe side, we whispered so as not to disturb the rocks above. Can't wait to go back!

B and H underground here in kc. It's an old cave complex like subtropolis or hunt midwest that was shutdown and abandoned.

Yeah the boat held up fine. It's actually kind of neat sliding through the water in complete silence and the water being perfectly still. We didn't go very far in the water - just across around the corner to the truck dock. Next time we'll bring some waders and just walk through.

Why go in wader when there is a boat to use. They wouldnt have left it if they wanted us to wear waders.
I went over to the dark side, but just to pick up a few things.

Agreed... Waders are like so last year!
Seriously though, does anyone think that there is any areas where you have to have waders to get to? It may be worthwhile just to bring them along anyway.

Well I wasn't sure on the waders thing. When we turned the corner right after launching the boat there was that open garage door. We went in there but when we got in between the pillars the boat got stuck so we just said screw it and didn't explore that part. We ended up docking on the stairs across from that door and went in there. I have a feeling there is a heck of a lot more to this place than what we saw. Plus we were kind of in a hurry because of the failing light. NEXT TIME!!!

Ok, the back up system for the batteries is coming along. But I made some greater progress with the light itself. It originally had two 6v 4ah batteries wired in series to get the 12v needed for the bulb (100w automotive style by the way, I know you were wondering.) I took it apart and with a little modification I squeezed a 12v 9ah battery in there. It will last 2.25x as long now. Plus I will use the old battery as the new backup system, along with the NiMH cell set I made up for the backup's backup. All in all the math says it should be about 2.5 hours of light, including all the backups. That should be sufficient don't you think? The next lighting idea I have is a really compact generator/flood light setup. We'll see how that goes. Later beav.
If you can read this, roll me back over....

i also am not sure that we saw everything, although we were there for a long time; where we found the boat, we went directly across the water; if we had turned a hard right, that is where i think that maybe there was more to see;
