Bannister Mall

Post by Watcher »

I hear they're closing as of May 20. Should go and see it befor its gone. I think it's gonna be a soccer stadium if the Wizards have their way.

I never did like that mall and I don't know why. Crime wasn't a big deal there to me since the only people I saw get harrassed there were the people that were afraid. I just didn't like it. We used to go in the hypermart after dark just for fun.

Well, for quite a while it has had no good stores there. I never went there much after Waldenbooks and Penneys closed.

That may have been it. I don't remember anything appealing to me.

I had several friends who got their wedding tuxes there. I didn't, but the mall where I got mine isn't doing much better.

I think the day of the mall is over, but I don't know what will ever replace them.

The Big Box Store replaces the Mall.

Walmart?
For a nice taste of irony, go out there and you will see a truly rare sight - an abandoned Wal-mart store. The former Hypermart is now completely abandoned. It moved, ironically enough, to the site of another dead mall that got demolished last year.

Hypermart was a concept store, it didn't make the money they were thinking it would. Mostly because it was in a super shitty neighborhood (unfortunately we lived less than 5 min from there for awhile).

You should ask hearse driver how he feels about the new walmart they built on the site of the old blue ridge mall. (The other 'dead mall' you speak of)

I probably don't have to ask - I think everybody hates that. Well, except for Wal-mart of course.

Ironically, I found out today that Bannister Mall is still listed as a crown jewel of the 6th district, even though it has been mostly empty for years and all the good stores have long ago fled.

Do you live in KC currently or visit often, live close by?

I live in Grandview near Truman Corners - another haven for decaying closed storefronts. I wish they'd do something with the place - the rats from it have started invading my yard.

And I'll bet Ward Parkway will be the next to go. People won't feel safe there any more after yesterday.
