Castle In KC!?

Post by David Keetz »

Ok, so i was in KC this weekend (IT WAS FREAKING COLD!!!!!) and i was wondering if anybody knows what that abandoned castle building on like....paseo and 25th near the train tracks are.....

also ...what was the building directly across the street from it?

I'm going back this weekend to poke around some more and get some good pictures but if anybody has any info that'd be cool.

This it?

If so, it's the City Work Building (whatever that is). There's a gallery for it in the location database on UER for Kansas City.

Oh, whoops. I guess you gotta have a registered account at UER to see it. Here...

Heh, I find some of the most interesting stuff sometimes... anyway if my sources are correct, the building in question is at 20th and Vine by the railroad tracks... Anywho, that's what I'm getting... accordingly it was built circa 1896-1897 and was called the The Kansas City Work House and was used to house men and women that I'm assuming worked for the city as the long part was the Men's Cell Room and the short part between the two towers on the second floor was the Women's Cell Room and the dinning room on the first floor. Anyway by 1950 it was labled Board of Public Works and the elongated part was used for Auto Repair and the part between the two towers just says sleeping room. Anyway, that's for the most part all of the information I can redilly get ahold of without having to do to much diggint ;-)

I can't believe I've never seen this thing. That's pretty awesome. I want to at least take a couple of pictures of the outside.

There isn't much to it... it is completely gutted indside, and not all that interesting. There was a nice picture inside of it on one wall though. IIRC it was a spraypainted drawing of a girl with her legs up that was quite anatomically correct ;-). lemme see if I can find any pictures I took of the castle, and I will post them here.

Well, at least the head and hair is done well. The rest is slightly anime proportions.
