Re: Springfield
Cobras can only strike as far as their raised up, in a dropping down motion, unlike a rattlesnake in it's cool coil which can lung nearly 75% of it's length. Since cobras don't lung forward ya gotta pretty good chance with a hoe.
Plus cobras have to chew to release venom. So as long as you're out of the "raised up range" you're good.

"Anyone else smell that?"
Re: Springfield
I've killed snakes with hoes, guns, shovels, boards, tennis shoes, tractors, cars, trucks, lawnmowers, weed eaters, or whatever was to-hand. I would be hesitant to tackle a cobra with anything other than a gun, just due to the psychological factor. I've never seen a Cobra anywhere but the zoo. Hell I tried to kill a snake at the Springfield Zoo but he got away. One was back by the Ozarks section and slithered across the sidewalk right in front of my kids a year or two ago. I picked up a big rock and went after it, but he slithered right off up into the tall grass. Obviously it was a wild snake, but I expect the Zookeepers would've taken a dim view of my attempt, had they seen it.BROUSER wrote:I've heard that in comparison to other striking snakes, cobras are quite slow. I've killed copperheads with a shovel or other handheld implement several times. While the consequences of failure might be greater, I would imagine the battle would be similar, if not easier. I probably would not kill one with a tire iron, however. That's too short a tool for the job.

RE: Springfield's Cobra Terror
Just wanted everyone to know that the guy who let the snakes loose was my stepdad and he has passed away...from a snake bite. Karma is a bitch.
