Tower Theater Marquee Letters on Sale @ STD Central

Post by greekspeak »

I was in Springfield a week or so ago for spring break. While in town, I made my normal rounds of the flea/antique malls. At STD central, I found that a dealer was selling the marquee letters from the Tower Theater that was formerly in the Plaza Shopping Center. The booth was on the west wall, of the building, about the center of the wall. Thought I would pass this along to my fellow history buffs!

I was in the Tower theater when the tornado of 1983 came thru watching....Something Wicked This Way Comes...a movie that ends with a tornado.

I saw the rerelease of Fantasia (not Fantasia 2000) there. I saw a few other movies there but I can't recall what they are right now. I'll have to go to STD Central to see how much they're asking for them.

They had three sizes of letters--at $3, 5 and 7 each. But when I took them to the counter, they were on sale. I got a medium letter for $3. Not bad for a bit of past and a conversation piece!

That is prety wierd! I remeber where I was. I was at Swenson's on Battlefield next to the Fremont Theater. Remember that place? I remember the lights went off for a few seconds, and when they came back on, everyone was crowding into the back of the restaurant, in the bathrooms.

Yep, I remember the ice cream place there. My sister and my mother were at the battlefield mall.

Dude, Willard. You need these things all over your house. The outside, I mean. And pronto.

If anyone would like to help with the "Willard's Tower Theater Marquee Reproduction Fund" (WTTMRF) Please PM me for a location where you can send funds. Brought to you by your local historic preservation nut.

Yeah, I've been hunting for 80's toys and other collectables at flea markets lately and noticed the letters. I was going to tell Willard about it but forgot. I pledge 10 dollars to the Willard's Tower Marquee Fund.

money may or may not be in monopoly money depending on Underdog's bank account.

I will say that I've bought 3 Heer's hat boxes from two of the STD Flea Markets! One is from the 1950's and the other two are from the 1960's.

Every time I have gone in I have found something crazy in one of those stores, and for practically nothing. I own two 50's and 60's phone books from there, collectable cook books, fountain pens, really great pulp novels (like Rosemary's Baby) from the 50's & 60's, dishware, pieces to complete silverware & dishware sets. All for practically nothing.

Hey Willard, I have a present for you from Heer's but I keep forgetting to give it to you. It's in my glove compartment. Let me know when you want it.
