Messiah Mill

Post by Smokehouse »

Thanks to some tips I was able to get into the smaller of the two towers and climbed a sketchy ladder all the way to the roof

PICS INCOMING

I was climbing up first and let me tell you, setting your hand down on a knife in the dark is spooky

Honestly one of the best views I've ever had doing this. Couldn't use flash because our friend in the band-aid wagon had return so the quality is trash

Anyone know what kind of equipment this is?

First floor of the building, the rest all look the same just with less junk

My non-expert opinion is grain transport. The bottom part looks like it could be an auger. Though I'm not sure why one would put an auger in a box pipe rather than a tube, so I'm probably wrong about the auger.
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

Reasonable guess, I'd need to see it up close to get a better idea of what it is.

No guarding, and exposed gears instead of self-contained speed reducer gearboxes?? No wonder so many guys used to get killed in industrial accidents.

I’ve been in both places and know the ways in. The tall one is the best, but I’m also looking for places and or urbex partners in and around Ozarks. Just went through Celeb City and Indian Ridge they are pretty cool too.

If you are serious about knowing ways in to the big one I'm interested because I've walked around that building 100 times. Shoot me a PM i may have some places I can share

The Messiah Mill has been bought by a female artist wanting to turn it into art studios and cover it in even more murals. Sounds like a cool project, but will cost millions. Thoughts?

Its a story been circulating a lot in the news but I personally doubt it will ever happen. The MFA feed mill downtown was also suppose to be converted into lofts and that project never finished with the manager ending up in jail on fraud charges. The costs and effort required to convert these structures is tremendous and being that the Messiah Mill has sat abandoned for so long, there will likely be some hidden structural issues to add to said costs. Plus the Messiah Mill contains some rather huge metal machinery that would need to be cut apart just to get out of the door. So while it may sound cool, or like a great idea, the reality is such a project is a bit unrealistic.
We are all just sloguns waiting to have our triggers pulled.
