Taking daughter on an Explore

Post by HardLuck682 »

My daughter, 9, wants to go exploring with me.

Just like gun safety, i know it depends on the maturity of the child in question, as well as what location you would be exploring.

My question here is whether you have taken any young people out with on "easier" or "less risk" explores? Also, what age were they, if you don't mind sharing.

I take my kids to caves and outdoor places like the albino farm. I just make sure they are prepared. ie. Hard hats etc in caves.

I've taken my kids into caves and a few places. Nowhere legally risky. It's just common sense. Or it depends on how much you value your kids, I guess. I will take my son places I won't take my daughter because my daughter's a sweetheart and my son is a turd. If something happened to him it really wouldn't be that big a tragedy.

Yeah the Albino Farm has walking trails around it now. :) Its not high on the risky factor. I would never take kids to a place where I could be arrested :(

What urbex in stl are you considering?

Like there were tons of kids crawling over The Boat last year when the water was low enough to get out on it. But a lot of stl's urbex is in areas of a sketchy nature.
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

I was thinking of a quick walk around the Cotton Belt Route. I've never had any trouble there at all, especially with an easy entrance being accessible currently.

Im not sure where the boat is, can you PM me info on that one?

I guess it depends on timing and whatnot, but cdd almost got shanked at cotton belt. Last time I went, we were swarmed by the resident homeless population living in an adjacent building and someone found and provided photos of a poop covered dildo there once. So.. not the kind of place to take your eyes off the children.

I would suggest Fort Bellefontaine as being a good place for the kids.

Never have brought minors with me. Just my $0.02 here: I would keep everything very legal if you are bringing a kids. If you do bring them to explore, I would not have them thinking that you are including them in illegal activities. It may bite you in the ass later. Also, child endangerment charges in Missouri are no joke.

"contributing to the delinquency of a minor" is an actual offense
