Abandoned airports site

Post by caver »

An interesting site if you've ever scoured topo maps and wondered about the little abandoned airstrips.

Pretty cool. There's, according to maps, a bunch of abandoned ones where I live, but I've never bothered to check them out. I just figured I'd find a cow field or something.

There's an abandonded airstrip to the north of my grandfather's farm in Oklahoma. On topo maps it's actually listed as the Siegman Air strip (I think... I do know you can spot it cause it has something to do with my family name.) My grandfather set it up in the early 1960's and it was last used in the early 1990's when my dad flew Grampy's 1957 Tri Pacer to Kimberling City where he's been rebuilding it. As far as I know the airstrip hasn't been used since. Also there used to be one next to Sam's out on East Sunshine. It used to sit next to the Drive-In Theater. You can see it on the terra server topo map.

Amazingly enough, Warsaw actually has a municpal airport. And I think it doubles as a cow field.

most of the places listed here are no longer even close to existing, not many abandoned airports are around, your lucky to find one thats more than just a strip.

mjames, not only are you no indiana jones....

but indiana jones doesn't even compare to Pierre.

Pierre could land a plane really nicely....or Sally Field herself.
