I don't agree with picking locks. If the owner does a good job securing the site, then good for them and I'll move on. Though I admit it is ever so tempting at times.

I think it would be a per basis call.

This is walking a fine line here. I say "probably not OK" to get into buildings this way, but give a hearty "Fuck yeah!" if we're talking tunnels or mines, or pretty much anything else that is just locked so the owner won't get sued when our dumb asses get killed inside.

Yeah, that's along the lines I was thinking.

i dont see much diffrence in picking a lock or climbing through a window

I'm with it on an obviously abandoned site, but anything that may be getting a renovation is off limits. The way I look at it as I will not brake anything to get in, but if I can slip in then it's fair game unless the site is in the process of being used or prepared for use.

I guess it does make a difference when talking about tunnels ect. . . But it is a thin line to cross. But I definetly see a difference between picking a lock and climbing through a window. I usually will not break things to get in, but it does depend on the situation.

It might be an issue for me if I could pick locks worth a damn. But despite having tried a million different times with my lockpicks, I've picked my way into a total of one location.

you should try 'bumping', I here it works really good, the more expensive the lock the easier to 'bump'

I'm suprised that hasn't been brought up since it was first posted about. I'd try it, but I don't come upon locks I want in very often.

Most locks I see in the field wouldn't work well with this method.eevilweevil wrote:you should try 'bumping', I here it works really good, the more expensive the lock the easier to 'bump'

Yeah if it's abandon or blocking a tunnel I'll pick it. We used to pick locks all the time in college at OSU. Mainly we'd get access to the computer server closet and our cable boxes so we could get free movie channels. Or get access to a roof or something. There's really nothing quite like the triumphant feeling of the last pin falling in place and the cylinder turning.

Re: Lock Picking Ethics... A poll
I am on the fence here. It really depends on the situation & location. I don't really like the infiltration side or UE, more into the abandoned sites myself. (Ask WR & Hiccup...lol) In most cases there is another way in besides the lock, but not always. But, I'd like to get some picks and learn to use them. But I always have really, even before I got into UE. I had fun making the pad-lock shims, I failed to open the lock I tried but it was fun. Just because I would know how to pick a lock doesn't mean I will to gain entry into a place that I know I shouldn't be.
