Art exhibit in Belleville, IL featuring UE

Post by White Rabbit »

I got this email about an art exhibit featuring Armour Meat that the sender gave me permission to repost here. I thought some of you guys might be interested in going to this if you live anywhere near it.
Hello,

Researching East St. Louis, I came across your blog and images of the
abandoned Armour plant. Photographer Richard Sprengeler has an
exhibition here at the Schmidt Art Center in Belleville, IL, featuring
his exploration of the same facility. Please stop by and check out the
exhibition if you're ever in the area--I would love to hear about your
experience.
The show closes on August 4, 2006.

Best regards,
XXX XXXX

Didn't get a chance, was actually in Mascoutah, not Belleville. Had to talk to my wife's friend's husband about the advantages of International over John Deere, how the soybeans are doing, when he got the corn in the ground. Didn't get to really do anything fun.

Why the hell would anyone prefer International over John Deere, they don't make windchimes, mailboxes and yard ornaments like John Deere does

At least you have an opinion. They treat me like I'm "special" in the social circles in Mascoutah, because I don't have an opinion.

Man, that must be real depressing to not be accepted in the social circles in Mascoutah. :(

You could really gain some ground with them if you attended the 44th Annual Ozarks Steam Engine Assn. and Southwest Missouri EDGE&TA Steam-O-Rama in Springfield, Missouri on September 14-17, 2006. Because what the hell else would you do for 3 days? Wow, just think of all the old ass rusty engines you would see. And actually, since you live in Republic you are probably familiar with the show already and have driven by it for years. Now you have the perfect reason to stop like you always wanted to.

You guys have just described the conversations that go on in my house on a constant basis. Here if you don't like Allis Chalmers you are "special". We special ordered a pitbike with Allis Chalmers graphics. Sometimes I hate Oklahoma.

Hey now! I like Steam-O-Rama! Of course I find it neat to watch people mess with equipment that's 100 years old. There's an old thrashing machine in the shale pit at my grandparents farm in Oklahoma and one of these days I'm gonna pull it out of there, fix it up and drag it to Steam-O-Rama! :-D

I used to work with people who planned their vacation time around Steam-O-Rama so that they didn't have to miss anything :)

I want to go sometime to see a crown sheet failure, if nothing else. I suppose that would be a bit like winning the lottery, though... it would be cool, but probably won't happen.

Willard you will need a truck load of cash to restore it and a lot of patience but I say go for it man it is so cool bringing them old boys back to life

It sounds great. I might be going that way in a couple of months. Not really too out of the way, if I go, I'll have to post pics.
