No.
Newer topo maps may even have the caves removed.

MOST caves won't show up on Terraserver. However, well-known caves often do appear on topographic maps. Often it will just say "cave" as is the case with the Ash Grove cave. Other times, however, it will be more specific, giving the full name and location for a specific cave. However, these are few and far-between, and topo maps are not your best resource when it comes to finding caves (although it can be done with some patience).

Here's a tip: Look at the lay of the land to try and find possible locations. Also, look for springs. When topos say "spring," it's sometimes a code word for "cave."

Happy hunting!

thanks for the tip sertile. I'm not to familiar with terraserver or topo maps to begin with. I was actually looking for the caves at Ritter Springs. I think I've found one that I stumbled upon before I knew any were there. But I can never find the others.

I checked terraserver and found doling cave was marked, and so was the one in ash grove that I'm going to try and find one of these days. But it made me think twice when I didn't see Sequiota cave marked.

Oh and that reminds me, I think on the doling cave tour was of the guides said you had to have a permit to go in the cave at Sequiota. Doesn't seem like they care much though, and how would anyone know?

One way I've found caves is in the Gazetteer, but the detail is lacking on exact locations. Permit? Sequiota? Darn, I knew I was forgetting something. There are usually some smaller caves on there.

I'm pretty sure Sequiota Cave is marked... or at least it was. Try going up on down in resolution. When you zoom in you're actually viewing a different map, which can either be more or less informative depending on when it was drawn. As for a permit, I've never heard of that, but I wouldn't worry about it. There's nothing posted, and the cave isn't gated, so whatever.

Heh heh, I have a Missouri road map from the 1940s and it has a close up of the Ozarks region. In that region it shows tons of caves and their names as they were known at that time. Funny thing is most of these caves aren't open to the public anymore!

The reason that a lot of caves arent on topo maps are simply because the owners of the property have not had their caves properly registered.

Yeah, unless you get ahold of an older map, your basically SOL with topos. I've tried looking on them for hours....no luck.

Actually, while MO topo maps are pretty cave-free, take a look at AR sometime. Their topos are chock full of caves. It's actually a lot easier to find caves down there than it is up here.
